Randy Stradley, who also publishes under the names Mick Harrison and Welles Hartley, is a writer and holds the position of Vice President of Publishing at Dark Horse Comics.
Stradley's career in the comics industry began in 1984 with his contribution to issue 86 of Marvel's Star Wars series. He subsequently became a VP and business partner of Mike Richardson, the founder of Dark Horse Comics in the 1980s, a company created with the intention of concentrating on comics based on film licenses. Dark Horse secured the rights to produce Star Wars comics in the early 1990s, following the conclusion of the Marvel series and in anticipation of the prequels. They relaunched the Star Wars line with titles such as Classic Star Wars (which reprinted the original Star Wars newspaper comic strips), Star Wars: Dark Empire, Tales of the Jedi, and Star Wars: Dark Empire II. Stradley and Richardson collaborated on the Star Wars: Crimson Empire miniseries, which centered on the Emperor's Royal Guard.
Before Stradley took on the role of Star Wars Senior Editor in 2002, the editing responsibilities for Dark Horse's Star Wars line changed hands several times. This appointment occurred as Dark Horse restructured its Star Wars line following the release of Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. He remained in this role until Dark Horse's Star Wars license expired in 2014.
The initial concept of Chewbacca's death in the New Jedi Order series originated with Randy Stradley.
