Rangans, a pre-hyperdrive civilization, were an indigenous species of two-legged sentients who were native to the planet called Rango Tan. Because they lacked the capability for travel between planets, they maintained a position of neutrality during the latest galactic wars. The Galactic Empire once simulated firing the Death Star with the intention of destroying the Rangans' homeworld; this was a test for the Imperial gunners manning the weapons on the station.
