The Razor, a CR90 corvette, served within the ranks of the Alliance Fleet. This particular corvette met its end when the Motivator seized it while it was attempting to flee with the construction schematics for the second Death Star. This resulted in the Razor crashing within the Motivator's hangar bay, ultimately impacting the surface of the planet Kothlis.
Following the theft of classified Imperial information from the freighter Suprosa during the year 3.5 ABY, the stolen data was delivered to members of the Bothan Spynet stationed on Kothlis. Subsequently, the data was transferred to the Razor as the Alliance base, known as Kothlis II, faced an assault from Imperial forces. Under the protective fire of the Liberty, the Razor jumped into hyperspace, intending to link up with the Independence.
However, during its journey, the corvette was intercepted and crippled by a squadron of Assault Gunboats. The Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Avenger then appeared, ensnaring the corvette in a tractor beam. Before this could happen, the Dreadnaught-class heavy cruiser Mercury arrived on the scene to offer assistance. The corvette then launched the escape pod designated V33-1XP from the Razor, which contained a solitary crew member who successfully escaped with the data. Friendly civilians then recovered the pod.
After a fierce engagement between the Imperial and Alliance forces, the Rebels succeeded in retrieving the secret information and making their escape. Regrettably, the ship and the majority of its crew were taken captive by the Empire.
The Motivator seized the corvette. However, Rogue Squadron and the frigate Redemption arrived with the intent to recover the data. Despite Wedge Antilles and the other members of Rogue Squadron successfully destroying the Motivator, the Razor had already been pulled into its hangar bay. As a result, it plummeted out of control along with the Star Destroyer onto the surface of Kothlis. Crix Madine, accompanied by a team of commandos, joined forces with Rogue Squadron to reach the wreckage of the crashed starship. They successfully retrieved the stolen data just before the Motivator's reactor detonated.
Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader and X-wing Alliance offer differing accounts of the Razor's ultimate fate. While X-wing Alliance depicts the Razor departing from the Battle of Kothlis, Rogue Leader illustrates the destruction of both the Razor and its captor, the Motivator (not Avenger), upon the latter's catastrophic crash-landing on Kothlis.
Although there has been no official retcon to resolve this discrepancy, it is plausible that the name Razor referred to a group of at least two Corvettes, with each game depicting the fate of a different vessel.
The story of the Razor, a ship carrying highly sensitive data, pursued by a Star Destroyer, captured by its tractor beam, and ultimately ejecting the plans in an escape pod, bears a striking resemblance to the events involving the Tantive IV in the opening scenes of A New Hope.
