Rebel combat speeder

The Rebel combat speeder started its life as an unsuccessful armored speeder created by the SoroSuub Corporation.

Characteristics

Forces within the Rebel sectors, often short on resources, utilized a variety of combat speeder models. One particular model bore a resemblance to the earlier V-19 in its overall form and weapon arrangement, but it also featured an enclosed area for the crew, armor of military quality, and potent rocket launchers alongside its laser cannons.

The Rebellion would also employ two other models for the same purpose. The lighter model was equipped with a single laser cannon positioned along the centerline, and its engines were extended from the rear using struts, rather than being integrated directly into the hull. Conversely, the heavier model boasted three engines at the tail, thicker plating, and cannons with greater firepower.

History

A Rebel combat speeder pursues a 74-Z speeder bike during the Battle of Tatooine.

The Rebel Alliance acquired the design following a late-night game of sabacc. A SoroSuub designer, having gambled away all other valuables, was compelled to surrender the schematics. Officers within the Rebellion discovered the speeder's utility in raids and engagements against enemy vehicles. It also proved effective against infantry. The New Republic continued to use them as late as the Liberation of Coruscant.

Behind the scenes

The alternate combat speeder variant cut in Star Wars: Battlefront.

In Star Wars: Battlefront II, the AAC-1 speeder tank replaced the Rebel combat speeder, despite sharing the same backstory. This implies either that a single designer lost two designs through gambling, or that multiple SoroSuub employees carelessly lost different designs. Furthermore, the vehicle's image on the Star Wars: Battlefront official website is different from the model used in the game.

In Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, this also served as the Rebel's Strike Mech and Heavy Strike Mech unit, although the models featured in that game look different from the one in Battlefront.
