The biological weapon referred to as red mist, but more formally known as the death mist, was an invention of the Charon species. When used sparingly, it could induce extreme pain, hallucinations, and insanity in any organic target because of its effects on the nervous system. Consequently, the Charon were able to subdue their desired targets; however, if used in larger doses, it could readily kill its victim by causing complete nervous system collapse. The sole effective protection from the death mist was the use of airtight vacuum suits, since the mist adhered to skin and penetrated the body via pores, making escape exceedingly difficult after contact.
