Remembered for their service in the New Republic Starfighter Corps, Derra Squadron was a squadron of starfighters that piloted BTL-S3 Y-wing starfighters.
The name of the squadron paid tribute to the devastating Battle of Derra IV, where an Imperial task force, which included the notorious 181st Imperial Fighter Wing, annihilated a Rebel Alliance convoy carrying crucial weapons and supplies intended for the newly established Echo Base on the ice planet Hoth.
As part of the New Republic fleet dispatched to bolster General Wedge Antilles' existing forces, the squadron fought in the Battle of Adumar in 13 ABY. During this engagement, the Y-wings successfully inflicted significant damage upon a pair of the invading Imperial force's Star Destroyers.
