Republic Spacelane Bureau

The Republic Spacelane Bureau served as the division of the Galactic Republic responsible for charting and surveying the galaxy along with its hyperroutes. This organization provided Coruscant with its key hyperspace navigational data, and worked towards governmental oversight of hyperlane information, in addition to creating a secure network of hyperspace beacons for important routes, thereby terminating private corporations' hold on navigational charts. Its existence dates back to approximately c.4,000 BBY, at which point it maintained the many beacons utilized by the Republic until the time of the Great Sith War.
