"Reputation" is a brief narrative crafted by Ari Marmell, and it was published in the periodical Star Wars Insider 136 back in 2012. The events of the story occur eight years following the Invasion of Naboo, and it centers around the bounty hunter Cad Bane's endeavors to establish his name.
The narrative unfolds with Cad Bane accepting a commission from Aris Ur-etu, a Bothan crime lord. Ur-etu's illicit activities are being hampered by an enigmatic Jedi. As Bane shadows and scrutinizes this mysterious Jedi, he uncovers that the individual presenting himself as a "Jedi" is not genuine.
After a showdown with the imposter "Jedi", Cad Bane comes across intriguing and deadly miniaturized equipment. He incorporates this tech into his arsenal, furthering his goal of solidifying his standing as a Bounty Hunter.
Born on the planet Duro, Cad Bane lived through the final decades of the Galactic Republic. He embarked on a career as a bounty hunter and ultimately became known as the galaxy's most esteemed mercenary. His motivations were primarily financial, especially after Jango Fett's passing. His main rival in the bounty hunting world was Jango Fett's son, Boba Fett, who was also beginning to make a name for himself as a mercenary against the Jedi.
Bane was willing to work for anyone who offered the highest price, regardless of their affiliations or the faction they represented, as long as he was compensated well. Loyalty was not a factor for him; if a more lucrative offer arose, he would readily betray his original client. His notoriety only increased as the conflict between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems intensified.
He often collaborated with other bounty hunters and mercenaries, including the shapeshifting Clawdite Cato Parasitti, a deadly assassin who shared his mercenary mindset. Parasitti would secure assignments for him and enlist additional assistance as needed.
