The salvage operation conducted on Yavin 4 took place as one of the Battles of Yavin 4, occurring shortly after the initiation of the Yavin blockade.
Following the destruction of the first Galactic Empire's Death Star by the Alliance to Restore the Republic in 0 ABY, several escape pods and shuttles that had managed to flee the Death Star's annihilation impacted the surface of Yavin 4. These survivors, among whom was Colonel Maximilian Veers, found themselves dispersed across the planet and isolated from any potential Imperial support due to the presence of Alliance military units.
Commander Brenn Tantor of the Empire received orders to extract the stranded colonel. Tantor's forces landed within the dense jungle environment, and he strategically positioned his troops to outflank the defending Rebel forces.
The Rebel infantry regrouped and engaged the advancing stormtroopers in intense firefights throughout the jungle terrain. After successfully breaching the Rebel defensive lines, Tantor successfully extracted Colonel Veers and subsequently withdrew his forces, leaving behind a decimated Rebel outpost.
Despite the Imperial incursion, the Rebellion maintained its presence on Yavin 4, although it would eventually lose much of the base in the battles that followed. Tantor was reassigned to other war zones, while Veers played a pivotal role in the development of the All Terrain Armored Transport.
This retrieval mission is portrayed within the "The Trap at Yavin IV" mission featured in the video game Star Wars: Force Commander. The mission depicts Veers just before his promotion to General and establishes his presence on the Death Star during the Battle of Yavin.
