Rogue Leader

Rogue Leader represented the callsign given to the leading pilot within Rogue Squadron, the Rebel Alliance's starfighter [squadron]. Luke Skywalker gave the order to retire the particular "Rogue One" label, which was previously used by Jyn Erso and her team, to honor their heroic actions on Scarif. Consequently, Luke then flew under the Rogue Leader designation. During the Empire's siege of Echo Base on Hoth, he utilized this callsign for its defense.

After the Battle of Hoth concluded, Wedge Antilles, a Commander, was promoted to Rogue Leader when Skywalker took a break from duty.

Behind the scenes

According to Star Wars: Battle Pod, "Rogue One" was once considered as another title for the leader of Rogue Squadron. Conversely, the short story Rogue Two, which appeared later in From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back, clarified that the "Rogue One" designation was discontinued. Given its more recent publication, this article operates under the assumption that Rogue Two provides the accurate account.
