Ron Cobb, born on September 21, 1937 and passing away on September 21, 2020, was a conceptual designer. He contributed to the creature designs for A New Hope, with some of his most recognizable works featuring in the Mos Eisley cantina scene, such as the Gotals and the Ithorians.
Although many of his designs didn't make it into the films, they were later brought back and implemented across the Expanded Universe. A prime example is the Revwiens, who in turn provided the creative spark for the Parwans.
Furthermore, he conceived of an alien with no official designation that subsequently appeared in an advertisement for the limited-edition Kellogg's C-3PO's breakfast cereal.
Due to his design of the long-necked Ithorian, his name was the basis for the name of an Ithorian Jedi Master, specifically Roron Corobb, in the animated show Star Wars: Clone Wars.
