Ronto served as a clone trooper pilot's assistant and participated in the initial Geonosis conflict of the Clone Wars. While stationed on Geonosis, Ronto piloted a LAAT/i alongside Skifter.
Born on the water-covered world of Kamino to be a part of the Republic's Grand Army, Ronto was created and rigorously trained to become a skilled clone pilot. In 22 BBY, Ronto, along with fellow pilot Skifter, was deployed from their home planet to the Arkanis Sector in order to fight in the First Battle of Geonosis. After arriving on the planet aboard an Acclamator-class assault ship, Ronto's LAAT/i began its mission to transport a group of clone troopers towards the Im'g'twe Hills. However, before reaching their intended drop-off point, Ronto's gunship was ambushed by a squadron of Nantex-class fighters. Ronto successfully shot down several of these vessels, enabling the LAAT/i to make a safe landing, sustaining only minor damage to its rear section. Throughout the remainder of the battle, Ronto continued to deploy clone trooper units and eliminate Geonosian starfighters, eventually returning to his Acclamator after the battle concluded.
As a clone derived from Jango Fett, Ronto's height was 1.83 meters. As a clone pilot serving during the phase 1 period of the Clone Wars, Ronto wore specialized clone trooper armor that included a chest-mounted box providing oxygen to his helmet. During the initial Geonosis battle, Ronto demonstrated his sharpshooting abilities by destroying numerous Nantex-class starfighters.
Jason Fry initially conceived Ronto for The Essential Guide to Warfare, where he was intended to be CT-1155's copilot in A Soldier's Story: I was a Gunship Pilot. However, Ronto and his associated story were ultimately removed from the book. On May 6th 2014, A Soldier's Story: I was a Gunship Pilot was revived as one of the deleted narratives from The Essential Guide to Warfare, appearing in the eighth installment of the StarWars.com blog Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, Part 8: Tales of the Clone Wars. In this blog post, Jason Fry and Erich Schoeneweiss explained that the story's similarities to Clone Trooper Falls in a Hole... led to its removal.
