When the skirmish around planet Naboo occurred, the Trade Federation's Central Control Computer was obliterated, causing all B1-series battle droids situated on the Great Grass Plains to become inactive.
Despite this, some droids remained active through methods not understood. These remaining droids commenced the destruction of the sacred forests by felling the trees. To counter this threat to both the environment and culture, Grand Master Yoda chose to dispatch a promising recruit to the location.
