Salovan Fische

title: Salovan Fische

Hailing from Corellia, Salovan Fische was a Human pirate (of the male variety) who existed hundreds of years before the Empire rose to power. He gained notoriety by founding a secret base deep within Resh 9376, a comet largely unknown to the broader galactic community. Ultimately, his own crew turned against him, marooning him on the comet where he remained for half a dozen years before he died.

History

Prior to his discovery of Resh 9376, little information exists about this individual's life. It is known, however, that he came across relevant data within a long-since-forgotten survey. This survey had been compiled by an automated exploration vessel belonging to Corellian interests over two centuries prior. According to the vessel's records, the otherwise unremarkable comet held a "cavernous anomaly in the comet's anterior quadrant, possibly the result of prior habitation." Intrigued, Fische, along with his band of pirates, journeyed to the Outer Rim location of the comet and conducted a complete survey of the drifting space rock, including multiple expeditions into the anterior caverns. This proved to be precisely what the Corellian rogue had sought: a clandestine, mobile headquarters concealed within an insignificant comet that few even knew existed.

For the subsequent ten years, Fische and his crew utilized the comet as their base of operations, securing captured starships to the interior walls and employing the main cavern as a storage area for their ill-gotten gains. Over time, the pirates converted several of the smaller caverns into sealed chambers, utilizing their ever-increasing wealth to transform Resh 9376 into a more comfortable refuge. Fische, emboldened by his successes and driven by grand visions of transforming the comet into a fully operational shadowport under his control, acquired a number of mining droids and additional excavation equipment with the aim of further hollowing out the comet's interior.

Downturn

Eventually, his good fortune diminished. Following a string of unsuccessful raids against heavily guarded merchant convoys, and weary of the poor living conditions within the comet, Fische's crew staged a mutiny. They abandoned him on Resh 9376 with only a collection of mining droids for company. He remained there for approximately six years before dying from unknown causes, spending his time carving away at the comet's interior.

Legacy

Before his demise, some of Fische's former crew members sold information about the comet to the Anjiliac kajidic, who recognized the potential of Resh 9376. Despite tales of Fische's extravagant and indulgent lifestyle, the Hutt clan did not actively seek to capitalize on the pre-existing base for another century. Once the Hutts took possession, they expanded Fische's rudimentary cave system into a more substantial shadowport, which became known as Point Nadir.

Furthermore, legends began to spread among the comet's later inhabitants that Fische had concealed a treasure hoard of valuable goods somewhere within one of the unexplored caverns. This legendary treasure, which eventually became known as Fische's Legacy, was the target of numerous impromptu treasure hunts during the Anjiliacs' control of Resh 9376. The precise contents and origins of the treasure varied depending on the storyteller: in one version, the Legacy consisted of plunder seized from captured freighters; in another, the loot was a rich deposit of priceless gems and ores discovered by Fische during his isolation.

Behind the scenes

The specific time period in which Salovan Fische lived remains unconfirmed. However, considering that much of the content in the Scum and Villainy sourcebook is situated during or near the Imperial Period, and that the Anjiliac Hutts have maintained control over Point Nadir for at least a century (and likely longer) after acquiring the information from his former crew, the latest possible time of his death would be sometime between 300 BBY and 200 BBY.
