Within the Hall of Satabs, Han Solo and Chrysalla observe the rulers of Ventooine as they are held in a state of suspended animation. The Satabs held the position of monarch on Ventooine. Each Satab's reign was limited to a single standard year, following which they entered suspended animation inside the Hall of Satabs. This was done to evade the detrimental effects of the shadeshine, the Satab's official symbol of power. Subsequently, this stone was passed to the next Satab, who was selected from the general populace during a specific ritual. The lineage of Satabs met its conclusion at the hands of Han Solo. After resisting an effort to install him as Satab, he annihilated the shadeshine and eliminated the last Satab at some point in the Galactic Civil War.
