A working pair of SM-series scavenger droids
Scavenger droids, also known as salvage droids, and often called scavs, were diminutive, self-operating droids that generally functioned in groups. They were utilized at crash locations to scavenge for salvageable components. They are also referred to as retrieval droids.
To minimize expenses, the Trade Federation made extensive use of these droids. Their purpose was to sift through the wreckage of their battle droids following skirmishes, with the goal of recovering any parts suitable for reuse in the construction of new droids. Furthermore, they assisted salvagers in their operations.

Trandoshan mercenaries and enslavers employed a different model. This variant was designed to latch onto a clone trooper's helmet, bore through the visor, neutralize the trooper, and subsequently haul them away. This version also had a beam weapon capable of depleting the personal shields utilized by clone commandos. Their programming incorporated a kamikaze ramming maneuver in the event of critical damage. They were also capable of adhering to walls and severing cables, lying in wait for their target before striking. Following an attack, the droids would gather the corpses and transport them to disposal sites.
