A scout platoon represented a specific type of military unit within the Imperial Army.
This scout platoon consisted of twenty-nine soldiers. It included two line squads, each led by a sergeant major, and a scout squadron under the command of a lieutenant. The scout squadron itself was further divided into two scout lances. Notably, the lieutenant took over the command lance position previously held by a sergeant. While the lieutenant held the formal leadership role for the entire platoon, established custom dictated that the sergeant major primarily managed the ordinary soldiers, while the lieutenant focused on the squadron.
It was possible to reinforce a scout platoon with an additional three scout lances, as well as one line squad.
The Special missions company incorporated an enhanced scout platoon as part of its structure. Rather than the standard five, this enhanced version featured only four scout lances, and lacked a line squad. Furthermore, both the sergeant major and the lieutenant received individual speeder bike assignments. Consequently, the special mission variant possessed a total of 22 speeder bikes, significantly more than the 10 speeder bikes found in a typical platoon. This configuration prioritized increased mobility, even if it meant having fewer personnel.
