Scrap rats, alternatively written as scrap-rats, and also called junkyard rats, were a diminutive type of scavenging rat indigenous to the planet of Bracca. They were additionally spotted on Ord Mantell. These quick and agile creatures made their home in the extensive junkyards of the planet, commonly darting through the wreckage of destroyed starships. Their nests, used for raising offspring, were constructed from discarded wires and cables. Notices were posted around the junkyards by 14 BBY instructing individuals not to provide food to the scrap rats.
A sign reading: ATTENTION DO NOT FEED SCRAP RATS
In the year 14 BBY, Cal Kestis, a former Jedi Padawan who worked as a rigger, observed several scrap rats darting past him as he moved through the remains of a Venator-class Star Destroyer. Kestis seemingly disliked the creatures, hoping they would keep their distance.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a game developed by Respawn Entertainment, marked the initial appearance of scrap rats; they are encountered multiple times while exploring the Bracca level. In an earlier demonstration version of the game, showcased at EA Play in June of 2019, creatures bearing resemblance to scrap rats were present on Kashyyyk instead of Bracca.
