Sebulba's Podracer

Sebulba, a renowned Dug racing champion, was famous for piloting a podracer known as Sebulba's Podracer before the events of the Invasion of Naboo.

Key Features

Sebulba's Podracer was equipped with a pair of Collar Pondrat Plug-F Mammoth Split-X engines. These engines had front-mounted split-X radiators that utilized a ram-air intake system, ensuring the efficient operation of the racer's massive turbines. The engines, though their use was against the rules, were powered by tradium power fluid, which was pressurized using quold runium and activated by ionized injectrine to give the pod enhanced speed. These modifications gave the pod a distinctive and powerful engine sound. It could reach an estimated maximum speed of 829 kilometers per hour and a maximum altitude of 85 meters.

History

Sebulba's Podracer in the Boonta Eve Classic

Sebulba raced his enormous Podracer on various tracks across the galaxy, from the methane-filled lakes of Malastare to the sandy expanses of Tatooine, often resorting to cheating to maintain his top position. He regularly brought his signature orange and black Pod to Tatooine to compete in the Boonta Eve Classic. His reputation for ruthlessness and competitiveness made him a consistent favorite in the Boonta. Sebulba's Podracer was a formidable machine, a large and intimidating presence with a thunderous engine roar that seemed capable of overwhelming opponents. Despite its impressive speed of 829 km/h, it was still slower than the Scatalpen, the BT310, and Skywalker's Podracer.

Throughout his ownership, Sebulba extensively modified his Podracer. At one point, it was equipped with a mechanism to shoot nails into the engines of other racers. Later, Sebulba replaced this with a buzz saw intended to sever the steelton cables of opposing Podracers. Subsequently, the buzz saw was replaced with an illegal flamethrower concealed within a compartment on the side of one engine, which could deploy a powerful blast of fire to incinerate any nearby competitors. To avoid disqualification, Sebulba would remove all illegal modifications and weaponry before inspections, re-equipping them afterward. Despite his use of the illegal flamethrower, no action was taken against him, either due to his popularity or the fear of reprisal, as he was known to place bounties on those who crossed him. His murderous cheating was well known.

The Podracer's dangerous features and prohibited fuel system were contained within a very large structure; the vehicle was among the largest Podracers ever constructed, and one of the most robust. Its high damage resistance was a significant advantage for Sebulba; the large, loud, and brightly colored Podracer was not only intimidating but also capable of knocking other Podracers off course and into obstacles with minimal damage to itself. Sebulba frequently employed this tactic, destroying several pods, including Mawhonic's podracer, which was crashed into a wall in Mushroom Mesa after Sebulba rammed the Gran's pod into it.

Aside from the illegal components, Sebulba implemented numerous modifications to his Podracer. The cockpit controls were specifically designed to suit the Dug's anatomy, making it difficult for anyone else to sabotage the pod effectively. Highly attuned to his pod's mechanics, Sebulba could break off parts of it without causing significant damage, using these detached pieces to his advantage. During the Boonta, he broke off a piece of iron from his cockpit and threw it into one of Mars Guo's engine fans, destroying Guo's massive engines and sending the Phuii into the desert. Later, Clegg Holdfast attempted to overtake Sebulba, resulting in his engines igniting from Sebulba's flamethrower, causing the Nosaurian to crash in the desert.

The intense race culminated in a dangerous showdown with Anakin Skywalker, who was flying a custom Radon-Ulzer racer. Despite Sebulba's attempts to sabotage Skywalker's pod, Skywalker managed to catch up. Sebulba tried to use his pod's size to his advantage, repeatedly ramming the smaller pod. In Hutt Flats, after several attempts to crush Skywalker's pod, Sebulba inadvertently hooked a latch from his cockpit onto one of the latches on Skywalker's cockpit, which was connected to a steelton cable, causing their cables to become entangled on the inner engines. The panicked Dug desperately tried to pull his Podracer away from Anakin's smaller engines, but Skywalker broke free by boosting his engines. Sebulba then made a final, desperate tug on his reins. To his shock and horror, the resulting force detached the Pod's steelton cables from the cockpit, sending both Split-X engines flying. The left engine crashed into a rock, spun out of control, and exploded into three flaming pieces. The right engine flew in the opposite direction, hit the ground, and exploded. The Split-X cockpit bounced up, then nose-dived into the desert, spinning and sliding until it came to a stop with Sebulba still inside. He survived the crash unharmed, but the famous Pod was destroyed just moments before he would have reached the finish line.

Subsequently, Sebulba acquired Anakin Skywalker's racer, the very pod that had won the Boonta, to replace his own destroyed vehicle.
