Selestrine, an Icarii Queen renowned for her sorcery and precognitive abilities, met her capture at the hands of the Imperial Lightning Battalion during the Icarii Campaign fought on Vestar. Her elaborate hairstyle featured an intricate weaving of jewelry and priceless gems, collectively valued at billions of credits.
Gifted with precognition, Selestrine was a psychic Icarii. As the chieftain of her people, she was taken prisoner by Colonel Abal Karda, who believed that the threat of her execution would force the Icarii to surrender. When this tactic failed, Karda sanctioned the deployment of a bio-weapon, resulting in the extinction of her entire species. Upon the realization that she was the last of her kind, Selestrine obtained poison and attempted suicide, but Colonel Karda, seeking to exploit Selestrine's prophetic abilities for personal gain, instead beheaded her and developed technology that allowed her head to survive inside a simple casket made of Kneeb-hide.
Enraged at being denied her death, Selestrine deceived Karda with a fabricated prophecy, claiming that his despised superior, General Nim, would soon perish, and that Karda would shortly receive a substantial promotion. However, when Nim arrived to take possession of the casket from Karda upon the orders of Darth Vader, Karda became enraged, murdering his commander and guaranteeing his status as an Enemy of the Empire. He escaped with Selestrine and sought refuge in the sanctuary of the Ancient Order of Pessimists located on Maryx Minor.

Darth Vader contracted Boba Fett to locate Karda and retrieve the box containing Selestrine's head. After killing Karda and verifying his suspicions regarding the box's contents (in direct violation of Vader's instructions), Fett decided to keep it for himself (although Selestrine recognized that Fett was more interested in the monetary value she represented than in her precognitive abilities). However, Vader had tracked Fett to Maryx Minor, and the two engaged in a battle for possession of the box. Vader began to employ the Force against Fett, who responded by kicking the box into a pool of lava. Unwilling to let Selestrine be lost, Vader pushed Fett aside and dove into the lava, managing to retrieve the box at the last moment. Selestrine was deeply saddened that she had yet again been denied the release of death that she so desperately desired.
Vader returned to his Star Destroyer and received two visions of the future from Selestrine: one depicting Emperor Palpatine betraying Vader, leading to his arrest and execution, and another showcasing Vader's rise to power, killing his master and assuming the role of Emperor. (This latter vision later became central to the fulfillment of the prophecy of the Chosen One who would bring balance to the Force.) Shortly after these glimpses, the Emperor contacted Vader, having learned that the Icarii queen was in his possession, and demanded that she be delivered to him on Coruscant. Despite concluding that he had little personal use for Selestrine, Vader was unwilling to surrender her to his master, choosing instead to kill Selestrine and send her remains for inspection.
