About a year and a half (eighteen months) before Operation Fracture, Vodran and Galen Walton Erso communicated about potential modifications to the Death Star's reactor, sharing several engineering documents. This conversation started when Vodran used a droid algorithm to assess the impact of the proposed modifications. The resulting Systems Safety and Compatibility Report showed several alerts for various subsystems and a critical warning for the hypermatter annihilator unit. Consequently, Vodran contacted Erso, rejecting the implementation of these changes and questioning their purpose, especially considering the project's advanced stage.
Without Vodran's awareness, Erso's alterations were secretly intended to introduce a vulnerability into the Death Star, which the Rebel Alliance could then take advantage of.
