The Shantipole Project represented an initiative conceived by Commander Gial Ackbar, in collaboration with the Verpine settlements of Slayn & Korpil. Its purpose was to engineer enhanced starfighters for the Alliance to Restore the Republic amidst the Galactic Civil War.
This endeavor, the Shantipole Project, was headquartered at Research Station Shantipole, an asteroid situated within the Roche asteroid belt. The principal creation arising from this project was the B-wing starfighter, with subsequent developmental work focusing on the B-wing/E starfighter (referred to as the "B-wing Expanded"). Nevertheless, an Imperial operative infiltrated the Shantipole research center, subsequently guiding Captain Kolaff towards the Roche asteroids; the Imperial corvette, Javelin 3, was among the starship dispatched to destroy the project. Despite the arrival of Transports such as Shantipole which successfully extracted personnel from the station, Ackbar's armed forces ultimately succeeded in repelling Kolaff. The light freighter Out Runner was involved in the project.
