The Shesh family was a Kuati lineage with connections to the royal family of Kuat.
History
Originating from the planet of Kuat, a world renowned for its shipbuilding enterprises, the Shesh family was a prosperous shipbuilding dynasty deeply enmeshed with Kuat Drive Yards. Due to their close relationship with Kuat of Kuat, the leader of KDY, the Shesh family experienced hardship when the administrator took his own life in 4 ABY, which resulted in significant damage to Kuat Drive Yards. The Shesh family's fortune, influence, and reputation diminished during the subsequent restoration efforts, leading them to seek assistance from the New Republic, which had established itself on Coruscant by 6.5 ABY. By secretly entering into agreements with the New Republic, the Shesh family profited handsomely when the remains of the Galactic Empire withdrew from the Kuat system in 8 ABY. New Republic associates signed deals worth billions of credits with the Shesh family, enabling them to recover their lost wealth and even surpass their previous prosperity.
Notable members
Viqi Shesh was a prominent member of the Shesh family who represented Kuat in the New Republic Senate from 19 ABY until 27 ABY. Shesh began her career in Kuati corporate marketing but leveraged her family's substantial wealth to finance her campaign for public office. During the Yuuzhan Vong War, Shesh became infamous throughout the galaxy for her collaboration with the invading Yuuzhan Vong species, to whom she covertly provided a significant amount of confidential information about the New Republic in return for a position within the Yuuzhan Vong administration. Shesh's clandestine activities were revealed during the conquest of Coruscant in 27 ABY, and she subsequently died, choosing to commit suicide to avoid being killed or punished by others.
