Siân Phillips


Jane Elizabeth Ailwên Phillips, more famously known as Siân Phillips, is a Welsh actress who was born in Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen, Wales. In the 1985 television movie Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, she took on the role of Charal.

Phillips is remembered by many for her past marriage with Peter O'Toole, as well as her portrayal of Livia, the Roman empress, in the British miniseries I, Claudius (where she played the spouse of Emperor Augustus, portrayed by Brian Blessed). She also appeared in David Lynch's science-fiction film Dune as the Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam. Furthermore, she played the wife of Alec Guinness' character in the BBC miniseries adaptations of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Smiley's People.

Phillips received the honorary title of Commander of the British Empire in 2000, in recognition of her contributions to the field of drama.
