A terrifying being with tentacles, known as a silan, originated from the world of Arorua. Its appearance was akin to a collection of twisting appendages and numerous toothy mouths, bearing a strong resemblance to the sarlacc. The silan dwelled within a massive earthen construction, surrounded by a scattering of animal skulls in the dark, dismal surroundings, acting as either trophies or gifts from the local inhabitants.
Silans were ancient beings deeply connected to the dark side of the Force. In the year 44 BBY, Qui-Gon Jinn, along with his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, eliminated one of these creatures, guided by the Living Force.
Following the destruction of the silan, Kenobi pondered the morality of their actions, wondering if such a creature, despite its nature, deserved its place within the balance of nature and therefore respect. Jinn admitted that he too found the event disturbing, but he believed the Force had guided them. He told his Padawan that the Force's intentions are not always clear and that the Jedi path is difficult, requiring them to be prepared to serve a purpose beyond their own.
