Sinker (smuggler)

Sinker, a male smuggler, came into existence circa 6 ABY. This individual collaborated with Jerf Huxley's organization, the Huxlings, which operated under the direction of Talon Karrde within the Smugglers' Alliance located in the Outer Rim Territories. In the year 22 ABY, he was present during a tense situation at an Outer Rim cantina. This occurred when Huxley attempted to forcibly obtain a severance payment from Jedi Knight Mara Jade Skywalker following her termination of their business dealings on behalf of Karrde. Huxley then commanded Sinker to seize Jade Skywalker's lightsaber. After he had secured the weapon, Jade Skywalker employed the Force to activate and control the lightsaber while it was still in his possession, creating a diversion that enabled her spouse, Luke Skywalker, to intervene. Once the two Jedi had subdued Huxley, Sinker gave the lightsaber back to Jade Skywalker.

Biography

Around 6 ABY, a male smuggler named Sinker was brought into the world. Roughly sixteen years later, in 22 ABY, Sinker became associated with the Huxlings, reporting to Jerf Huxley. Huxley conducted his affairs in the Outer Rim Territories, working with Talon Karrde of the Smugglers' Alliance. After establishing himself as a legitimate businessman, Karrde dispatched his veteran agent Mara Jade Skywalker to Huxley's Outer Rim cantina to formally end their partnership. Anticipating this, Huxley gathered a group of Huxlings, including Sinker, along with a replica droideka, with the intention of overpowering Jade Skywalker and extracting a severance payment of five hundred thousand credits.

Mara Jade Skywalker with her lightsaber

During this confrontation, Huxley instructed Sinker to take possession of Jade Skywalker's lightsaber, a command he followed with reluctance. As a Jedi Knight who was strong in the Force, she then used telekinesis to ignite and manipulate the lightsaber while Sinker was still grasping it. He surprised Jade Skywalker by maintaining his hold on the weapon, even as she telekinetically forced it to swing wildly around the room.

While Sinker was the focus of attention for the approximately twenty underlings of Huxley, Jade Skywalker's husband, who was also a Jedi, Luke Skywalker, intervened and disabled the droideka using his own lightsaber. As Skywalker neutralized the droid, his wife gained the upper hand over Huxley, forcing him to cease the attack. Now at her mercy, Huxley conceded, and she arranged to pay him twenty thousand credits as gratitude for his decade of service to Karrde. With the situation resolved, Sinker returned the lightsaber to Jade Skywalker, who then reattached it to her belt.

Personality and traits

Sinker was afraid of Jade Skywalker's abilities, and visibly trembled with nervousness and stuttered when he took her lightsaber. Although Sinker was intimidated by Jade Skywalker, he managed to keep a firm grip on the lightsaber even as she manipulated it with the Force, which surprised the Jedi.

Behind the scenes

Sinker made his debut in the 2004 Star Wars novel Survivor's Quest, penned by Timothy Zahn.
