This encounter at the Shi'kar Straits occurred in 20 BBY. This was during the time of the Clone Wars. Following the events after the battle that took place on the planet of Kiros, Jedi Generals Obi-Wan Kenobi along with Anakin Skywalker were still actively looking for the missing Togrutas. After Grand Master Yoda made it known that the disappearance of the Togruta population on Kiros was being attributed to the Jedi, Kenobi proposed that they should look into the Zygerria system to investigate further. Skywalker took charge of the mission, and his Padawan Ahsoka Tano, Kenobi, and Captain CT-7567 accompanied him. They departed on the Twilight and made their way to what was left of the Shi'kar homeworld. There, they discovered a Zygerrian Freighter-class vessel known as the Fate's Hand.
The group docked, and they were greeted by the ship's captain, Onyx. Skywalker and Kenobi used Tano as "merchandise" to deceive the Zygerrian slavers. Soon after, they ignited their lightsabers and engaged in combat. Clone troopers provided support, and the Zygerrians were quickly forced to retreat to the freighter's cockpit. Tano, pretending to be injured, was captured by the Zygerrians and held for ransom. Skywalker, Kenobi, and Rex re-entered the freighter and rescued Tano. They then coerced Onyx into revealing the location of the missing Togruta population, learning that they were being sold at auction on the Zygerrian homeworld.
In 20 BBY, the Battle of Kiros resulted in the disappearance of the Togruta people of the planet. Grand Master Yoda contacted High General Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Anakin Skywalker to inform them about the missing population. Even though the Jedi were blamed, Kenobi felt something was amiss. He revealed that there was activity in the Zygerria system, which he brought to Yoda's attention. The Zygerrians were familiar to the elder Jedi Master, and an investigation into their system was deemed necessary.
Kenobi planned the mission to the Zygerria system, cautioning Skywalker to be careful. However, the Jedi Knight dismissed the warning. His reaction worried Tano. Kenobi explained to her that her master had once been a slave and was trying to forget that part of his life. Eventually, Skywalker suggested they travel along the trade routes leading to Zygerria to avoid detection. Skywalker, Kenobi, Tano, Captain CT-7567, and a group of clone troopers departed in the Twilight and headed to the Zygerria system.
The group traveled through the Shi'kar Straits, which was all that remained of the Shi'kar homeworld. Skywalker insisted to Kenobi that they should have brought their battlegroup to Zygerria, but Kenobi replied that with "luck," they would find a Zygerrian slave freighter. Skywalker's astromech droid, R2-D2, informed CT-7567 that a freighter was approaching in the distance. After the clone captain told Skywalker, the Jedi Knight told Tano to prepare their main weapons. However, Kenobi forbade an attack and suggested they negotiate with the slavers on the freighter.
After contacting the freighter, the ship's captain, Onyx, allowed them to board, believing the group were "amateurs." The Twilight docked with the freighter, and Skywalker, Kenobi, and Tano entered the Zygerrian slave freighter. Onyx and several armed Zygerrian slaves greeted the group. The Jedi used Tano as "merchandise" to impress the Zygerrians, but their negotiations were cut short when Skywalker ignited his lightsaber. Skywalker demanded Onyx surrender, but he refused and began firing at the Jedi Knight. Kenobi and Tano followed suit, activating their lightsabers, which shocked Onyx and his men. More blaster fire erupted, and clone troopers arrived to support the Jedi. Zygerrian slavers attacked from behind and almost killed Kenobi, but CT-7567 warned him of the attack.
Kenobi then ordered a retreat, but one slaver fired a missile launcher at Tano and CT-7567. The explosion caused the shield door—which allowed the Jedi and clones to re-enter the Twilight—to fall near the clone captain. Tano used the Force to hold it up, allowing CT-7567 to rejoin Kenobi and Skywalker.
The group quickly returned to the Twilight, but Skywalker noticed Tano was missing. The Togruta padawan was left on the freighter as part of her plan to deceive the Zygerrians. A slaver told Onyx about the injured Tano, and they took her to the ship's cockpit. Meanwhile, Kenobi and Skywalker couldn't detach the Twilight from the Zygerrian freighter, which worried them. They then received a comlink transmission from Tano, who was being held in the cockpit of the slave ship. Skywalker told her to unlock their rear airlock doors so they could enter. She acknowledged and used the Force to open the doors without alerting Onyx and his slavers in the cockpit. Wearing pressurized space suits, Skywalker, Kenobi, and a group of clones left the Twilight to rescue Tano.
After a minor attack by a Blixus, Skywalker and Kenobi ambushed the cockpit of the freighter and killed everyone except Onyx, who held Tano by the neck and pointed a blaster at her head. Kenobi calmed the Zygerrian down by stating they didn't want to fight, but instead needed to know the location of the missing Kiros Togruta population. After Onyx revealed that the Togruta population was being sold on the Zygerrian homeworld, the Jedi and clones left in the Twilight.
