The Shi'kar Straits, previously the world of the Shi'kar
The Shi'kar were a people whose original homeworld—situated inside the Nembus sector found in the Outer Rim Territories—met its end from the impact of a comet at some time preceding the Clone Wars period of 22 to 19 BBY. The planet was shattered into countless fragments due to the impact, which in time formed an asteroid belt known as the Shi'kar Straits. Some of the larger asteroids still held the remains of structures from the planet's past. By the time the Clone Wars were underway, the Shi'kar Straits had turned into a safe place for smugglers, pirates, and scavengers.
Henry Gilroy conceived the Shi'kar for the second issue of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars comic-book series, which Dark Horse Comics released on October 15, 2008. The comic book depicted a mission to the Shi'kar Straits carried out by the Jedi characters Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano, who were in pursuit of the Zygerrian Slavers Guild.
When the comic's story was adapted into the fourth season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television program in late 2011 and early 2012, the Jedi's trip to the Shi'kar Straits was omitted. Since the television show is considered more important than the comic books in the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Shi'kar's existence cannot be definitively proven.
