The Skirmish over Saleucami unfolded when Boba Fett, the bounty hunter, embarked on a mission to claim the reward offered for the capture of an Alliance to Restore the Republic reconnaissance team, commanded by Admiral Ackbar, above Saleucami.
Not long after the Evacuation of Yavin, the Rebel Alliance discovered a holocron created by Bail Organa as a contingency plan should the rebels ever lose their base on Yavin 4. This holocron contained coordinates for potential new Alliance bases. Ackbar headed a scouting expedition to the Graveyard world of Boz Pity, one of the locations detailed in the holocron. Having determined that Boz Pity would be an ideal location for a new base, Ackbar boarded a GR-75 medium transport with a small part of the reconnaissance party, but they never reached their destination.
Somehow, the Mandalorian bounty hunter Boba Fett had found out that Ackbar was en route to Saleucami, and he prepared an ambush. As the transport entered the system via hyperspace, the Slave I launched a surprise attack from the rear, disabling the transport's engines. Subsequently, the bounty hunter boarded the transport and captured the Mon Calamari admiral, along with all surviving crew members and droids. The fate of the transport remains unclear; it may have been destroyed or simply left adrift.
Fett delivered Ackbar to the Galactic Empire, but he retained possession of the remaining crew and droids. Fett traveled to Tatooine and sold the crew as slaves to the Hutt Cartel. Later, Ackbar was liberated by Renegade Squadron during the Battle of Kessel, and the rebel prisoners were freed during a Mission to Mos Eisley.
