The Skywalker Tour, a well-known excursion on Tatooine, took visitors to locations central to Luke Skywalker's pivotal choice to become a member of the Rebel Alliance. Following the Battle of Endor, Myhr Rho, an ambitious Cathar, initiated a daily tour encompassing the locations detailed below. As news of the Empire's defeat on Endor spread, the Skywalker Tour's popularity surged, allowing for an upgrade to a sail barge for transportation. Nevertheless, evidence indicates that sometime between 4 ABY and 8 ABY, the tours either discontinued visits to certain sites or ceased operations entirely.
Below is a listing of the stops included on the Skywalker Tour, presented in the sequence in which they were visited.
-
- The landing location of the escape pod from the Tantive IV, carrying droids R2-D2 and C-3PO. After a disagreement, the droids went their separate ways.
-
- The location where Jawas captured R2-D2.
-
- The location where Jawas captured C-3PO. It's important to note that stops 2 and 3 did not occur in chronological order historically. Relieved to be rescued and unaware of the fate of droids "rescued" by Jawas, C-3PO gladly informed the Jawas of the last known location and direction of his counterpart.
-
- The Lars homestead and moisture farm. Following the Battle of Yavin, the Lars moisture farm remained deserted until Luke Skywalker sold it to a spice smuggler by the name of Throgg, who subsequently sold it to the Darklighter family. Notes on vidmaps of the area showed that the Darklighters welcomed company. However, it was not known if they tolerated groups of tourists who had come to see where Luke Skywalker had slept, or where Owen and Beru Lars had been murdered.
-
- The location where Luke Skywalker encountered R2-D2, was attacked by Sand people, and was saved by Obi-Wan Kenobi.
-
- Ben Kenobi's hut. This structure was restored and maintained for the Skywalker Tour. However, around 8 ABY, it was discovered to have been plundered and inhabited by various non-sentient creatures.
-
- The site of the destroyed Jawa sandcrawler. Although the sandcrawler had largely disappeared due to scavenging by other Jawas, the site maintained historical importance regarding Skywalker's decision to join the Rebellion.
-
- Mos Eisley. Specific locations visited in Mos Eisley by the Skywalker Tour are not recorded. Likely stops within Mos Eisley would have included:
The Skywalker Tour also included visits to Jabba the Hutt's former palace and the Great Pit of Carkoon, in addition to the aforementioned locations. Details regarding renovations to the palace are scarce, save for the inclusion of a precise replica of the famous artwork Man in Carbonite. The difficulty experienced by Luke Skywalker and Han Solo when entering the former palace in 12 ABY suggests that the resident B'omarr Monks disliked tourists and sealed off all entrances.
The Great Pit of Carkoon stop showcased the stripped remains of Jabba the Hutt's sail barge, along with robots depicting Jabba and his cohorts, and the Sarlacc. It is probable that safety measures were implemented to prevent tourists from falling into the pit.
