Plot summary

Shannon Voorson resided alongside her parents, Nell and Johan. While at a console, engaged in code slicing within her apartment, she voiced her opinion that the names of the star destroyers situated in the Kuat Drive Yards were "unimaginative". Her cousin, Deen, arrived as a visitor to the apartment, and she invited him into her room for a conversation. Shannon and Deen updated each other on the happenings since their last encounter several years prior. Their discussion shifted towards Shannon's fascination with the tale of Vici of Alderaan, followed by the Destruction of Alderaan itself. Deen then confessed his sympathy towards the rebellion, a secret that Shannon pledged to keep. Shannon disclosed her activity of slicing into imperial files to uncover the names of the star destroyers, a revelation that caused Deen to worry about her potential trouble.

The family partook in a dinner that included Bhillen. As they dined, they exchanged stories with Deen, who recounted his offworld adventures. Deen then mentioned his need for a Colony Class 23669 power generator, a statement that surprised Nell. Later that evening, Johan and Nell engaged in an argument. The following morning, Deen departed, but not before leaving behind a Signaller, which Nell instructed to be destroyed. Shannon secretly concealed the signaller, feigning obedience to her mother's command.

The day progressed, and Nell and Johan behaved as if Deen had never visited, which frustrated Shannon. That night, she returned to her computer and resumed her slicing activities. She devised a plan to assist Deen and altered the shipment time of one of the power generators he had requested the previous day. The next morning, she discreetly left for the shipyards, convincing a security guard with the excuse of delivering lunch to her father.

Orbiting above the planet, Deen and Boo Rawl were docking the Long Run at the Kuat shipyards, utilizing an ST box to disguise their transponder signal with an imperial one, specifically that of driver 36DD, for clearance to receive a generator. Despite receiving clearance, Boo remained concerned that their plan might fail. At the docks, the generator intended for the 'Deedee' was delivered to the Long Run. To Deen's astonishment, Shannon had secretly boarded the ship along with the generator.

Deen's initial response was to remove Shannon from the ship, but Boo reminded him of their time constraints. The Long Run departed the shipyard, and upon its exit, the actual Deedee arrived. Imperial TIE Fighters were alerted to their location. A voice transmitted through the comms, which Shannon recognized as her mother's. She attempted to persuade her to halt the attack, but her efforts were futile. The Long Run narrowly avoided colliding with the Deedee before escaping into hyperspace. During the hyperspace journey, Deen consoled Shannon, acknowledging that they could never return to Kuat and that the Rebel Alliance represented their future.
