Solar pike

The solar pike was a special type of Thyrsian pike. This variant was employed in ritual combat by the Sun Guard, a respected military force and also a Sith cult. They originated from the planet Thyrsus, and they considered the pike to be a weapon of great significance. The Thyrsians inherited it from their Echani relatives. This polearm was approximately one meter in length and required two hands to wield. This allowed the user to both defend against attacks and strike with the blades located at each end. The solar pike had special tips that could conduct energy. These tips were activated through controls on the grip, causing them to glow with a red and hot intensity.

Behind the scenes

The solar pike's initial mention occurred within Galaxy at War. This was a 2009 Star Wars Legends sourcebook that supplemented the Star Wars Roleplaying Game by Wizards of the Coast.

Its identification occurred for the first time in the second part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut. This was a twelve-part blog series showcasing material that had been removed from The Essential Guide to Warfare. This particular part, titled "Ancient Coruscant," was authored by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart and was published on StarWars.com during 2013.
