Soomana was one of four moons orbiting the planet Rodia. Rodia was found within the Tyrius system, which itself was located in the Outer Rim Territories' Savareen sector. Its position was identified as grid square R-16 on the Standard Galactic Grid.
The initial mention of Soomana within Star Wars canon occurred in issue number fifty-eight of De Agostini's Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon magazine, released circa February 10, 2016. In the Star Wars Legends timeline, Soomana's existence was originally established in Shadows of the Empire Planets Guide, a supplemental resource for West End Games's Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game that came out in September 1996.
