Sors Bandeam

Sors Bandeam was a male Human Jedi Initiate. He was a student at the Jedi Order's Temple academy located on Coruscant during the period known as the Clone Wars.

Biography

Sors Bandeam, a Force-sensitive Human, was entrusted to the care of the Jedi Order for education in the ways of the Force. He was placed into a specific clan within the Coruscant Jedi Temple. As many of his instructors engaged in combat and perished during the Clone Wars, the Initiate Bandeam remained at the Temple.

In 19 BBY, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine committed an act of treachery against the Jedi Order by issuing Contingency Order 66. At that time, Initiate Bandeam was with his clan at the Temple when the 501st Legion advanced up the Processional Way. Seeking safety in the High Council Chamber, which was situated atop one of the Temple's towers, he and the other younglings felt relieved when Jedi Anakin Skywalker entered the chamber. They mistakenly believed that the renowned hero had arrived to rescue them from the attacking clones. However, they were unprepared for the Jedi-turned-Sith igniting his lightsaber and killing them after Sors spoke to Skywalker. Skywalker had succumbed to the dark side of the Force and had become known as Darth Vader.

Behind the scenes

In the 2005 film Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, which concluded the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Sors Bandeam's character was portrayed by Ross Beadman, although he was not credited. Interestingly, the character's name is an anagram of the actor's name.

Beadman secured the role after his mother contacted a casting agency, which then sent her an email indicating a casting call for child actors for Episode III. To prepare himself, Beadman watched all three films of the original trilogy on VHS tapes before being selected for the part of Sors Bandeam. The character's name was provided by the agency and included in the email confirming Beadman's casting. According to Beadman, the role brought him a degree of popularity at school, as most of his classmates enjoyed Revenge of the Sith. However, it was his classmates who informed him of his character's death, as his parents had told him that his character survived the film.

Initially, Sors Bandeam was intended to be a non-speaking character in the film. However, the casting director ultimately decided to have Beadman deliver the line: "Master Skywalker, there are too many of them! What are we going to do?". This is supported by the film's illustrated screenplay, which shows all the younglings in the room saying the line before Anakin began slaughtering them. Beadman admitted to being somewhat nervous during the filming of his scene, and it took four takes to get it right. During filming, Hayden Christensen surprised Beadman by shouting "Boo!", causing him to stumble back just as Christensen's character activated his lightsaber.
