The toy series for Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, featuring figures and vehicles inspired by the then-new film Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, was launched by Hasbro in 2005. Before the movie premiered, a "sneak preview" wave of toys was released, featuring four 3.75-inch scale action figures, including the fresh faces of General Grievous, Tion Medon, a Wookiee Warrior, and R4-G9. Also available was Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Starfighter, scaled to match the new figures. In addition to the Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith based toys, some sets inspired by the original trilogy were also made available.
Integrating the sculpting and articulation improvements from the earlier Vintage Original Trilogy Collection, the main line featured figures with stands that depicted scenes from the movie. Battle Packs, featuring more dynamic figure poses, were introduced in this collection, while the Evolutions line, consisting of three-figure packs, celebrated the franchise's history with characters from different time periods.
Retailers like Toys R Us and Target each received their own exclusive individual figures, marking the first time that individual figures were offered as retail exclusives. Previously, exclusives had only been obtainable at conventions or online.
