Star Wars: The Card Game

Star Wars: The Card Game, a product of Fantasy Flight Games, saw its initial release on December 20, 2012. Designed for two players, the game pits the Light Side of the Force against the Dark Side. Each player commands well-known characters and spacecraft from the Star Wars universe in head-to-head combat.

The release of Promise of Power in early 2018 marked the end of the game's expansion releases.

Publisher's summary

In this engaging head-to-head card game, the Rebel Alliance and its allies face a perilous situation. One player assumes control of the dark side's forces, aiming to solidify their dominion over the galaxy. The Death Star dial visually represents the dark side's strength; reaching "12" signifies victory for the dark side. The dark side player can utilize the vast military resources of the Imperial Navy, including Star Destroyers and TIE fighters, the cunning strategies of the Sith, and the abilities of the galaxy's Scum and Villainy to further their objectives.

Conversely, the other player champions the light side, opposing the dark side's oppressive rule. Victory is achieved by defeating three dark side objectives. This is a challenging endeavor, requiring the light side player to leverage every available resource and tactic from the Rebel Alliance, the Jedi, and their allies, including a select group of Smugglers and Spies.

Development

Originally, this game was revealed in 2011 as a collaborative experience. Players would unite to lead a Rebel strike force or mission team, challenging an Imperial deck managed by the game itself, operating "with a devious artificial intelligence." However, the game underwent a significant overhaul following feedback from demonstrations at Gen Con 2011, leading to its removal from the initial distribution schedule.
