A volume entitled "Starships of the Empire and the Rebellion" exists as part of the Star Wars Encyclopedia collection, a set of canon reference publications. Its release date was October 12, 2021.
The Galactic Empire's ability to control the galaxy was partly due to its extensive and technologically advanced naval force. No rival in the galaxy could compete with its Star Destroyers. Conversely, the Rebel Alliance had considerably fewer military ships available; however, they swiftly mastered the art of repurposing any available resources, even acquiring vessels from the Empire through theft. Nevertheless, the Galactic Civil War remained a profoundly asymmetrical battle between the two factions, particularly as the Empire persistently enlarged and enhanced its fleet with novel, better-equipped, and more sophisticated spacecraft. In a conflict with a totally unforeseen conclusion, both sides strained their resources to the breaking point.
