Strike at an Incom Corporation facility

Prior to the significant Battle of Yavin, the Rebel Alliance launched a daring raid on an Incom Corporation installation. Their goal was to secure several T-65 X-wing starfighters, which they intended to utilize in the upcoming Battle of Yavin.

Background

The mission's purpose was to obtain X-wings for the pilots stationed at the Yavin 4 base. General Jan Dodonna was the mastermind behind the strategic attack plan.

The battle

Biggs Darklighter shoots a TIE fighter from space.

Captain Biggs Darklighter spearheaded an assault on the base, leading a squadron of Imperial TIE fighters that had recently switched their allegiance. The Imperials were caught off guard by the TIE fighters' equipped with hyperdrive, which allowed the defectors to leave the planet with ample time. The ISB members, piloting all the TIE fighters at the base, promptly scrambled to intercept the Rebel TIEs.

While TIE fighters were engaged in aerial combat, a team of Rebel spies successfully infiltrated the facility, subduing all Imperial guards.

Rebel pilots steal X-wings from the Incom facility.

The Rebel TIEs had been modified to allow control by astromech droids. The four former Imperial pilots subtly ejected from their respective fighters, allowing the droids to assume control of the TIEs and lead the Imperial fighters on a wild goose chase to the system's edge. Soon after, a Rebel transport, accompanied by two Y-wings, entered the system to rescue the pilots, who were able to survive in space thanks to their TIE pilot space suit. An isolated Imperial fighter shot down a Y-wing, but Biggs retaliated by destroying it with his heavy blaster rifle. Subsequently, the transport collected the pilots.

Bigg's team of pilots, along with several other Rebel pilots including Wedge Antilles, eventually arrived at the facility aboard the transport and secured two dozen X-wings without encountering any opposition. They then transported them back to the Yavin 4 base in the Rand Ecliptic, because the X-wings could not navigate through hyperspace without astromech droids.

Aftermath

An infected Klivian after the mission.

The mission achieved its objectives; however, Peate Kurin lost his life during ejection, and Hobbie suffered the loss of his right shin and foot. While a replacement was planned, the injury became infected. This infection sidelined him for an extended period, preventing his participation in the Battle of Yavin.

As a direct consequence of the mission, the Yavin Base now possessed X-wing starfighters, although they lacked the necessary astromechs for hyperspace navigation. A swift mission was organized to acquire some R2 astro droids from smuggler Nera Dantels located on Commenor.
