The Strontium Raid constituted a military clash that occurred in 15,480 BBY on the planet of Abhean, a Mid Rim world. This planet was positioned along the Perlemian Trade Route section of the super-hyperroute, a region under the dominion of Coruscant, which served as the capital planet of the Galactic Republic.
The Strontium Raid represented one of the later battles in the Second Alsakan Conflict. This conflict had begun roughly six centuries prior, continued for an additional eighty years, and was just one part of a series of wars spanning fourteen millennia. These wars were fought over political dominance of the Republic, with Coruscant, the planet Alsakan, and their various allies as the main contenders.
The reference work The Essential Guide to Warfare, penned by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart in 2012, was the first place the Strontium Raid was mentioned. In reality, strontium is a metal and a chemical element. Compounds derived from it find use in the production of ferrite magnets, as well as in items like fireworks, flares, and tracer ammunition. Furthermore, the radioactive isotope known as strontium-90 has seen application as a power source within radioisotope thermoelectric generators.
