Tafanda Bay, a city of the Ithorian people, was a massive herdship that floated above the planet of Ithor. During the time of Imperial interference, Momaw Nadon held the position of high priest for this city. Relal Tawron later took over as high priest during the Yuuzhan Vong War.
These Ithorian herd ships, reaching hundreds of meters in height, provided living space for thousands. They floated serenely above Ithor's surface. The Ithorians regarded the interior jungles as sacred spaces where neither they nor others were permitted to tread. For thousands of years, the Ithorians inhabited these herd ships, showcasing how nature and technology could coexist in harmony.
In contrast to the sleek towers favored by Humans, Tafanda Bay's exterior was adorned with moss, flowers, and towering trees. It featured landing platforms for arriving starships and speeders, and dozens of enormous repulsorlift engines gently propelled it across the jungle landscape.
Inside, the ship recreated nearly every type of terrain found on Ithor, as well as many from other planets. The ship housed several large halls where visitors could purchase goods from the shrewd Ithorian traders. One popular attraction was the Great Atrium, nearly a kilometer in diameter, with moss-covered walls that opened to the sky above. Other favored destinations included the upper and lower observation decks, which offered breathtaking views of the jungle and Ithor's vibrant violet night sky. Daring visitors could rent speeders for guided tours above the jungle.
Tafanda Bay served as the flagship for the Ithorian ground fleet.
This magnificent eco-city was a popular destination for tourists and a thriving commercial hub within the Lesser Plooriod Cluster.
During the rule of the Galactic Empire, Emperor Palpatine dispatched the Star Destroyer Conquest to pressure the Ithorians into revealing their ecological secrets. Momaw Nadon, the high priest of Tafanda Bay at that time, relinquished the knowledge accumulated by generations of Ithorian botanists to protect Ithor's jungles from harm. As punishment, the Ithorians exiled Momaw to Tatooine.
Following the next "great meet" of Ithorian Herd Ships, Momaw reclaimed his position as high priest of Tafanda Bay.
Years later, during the conflict with Admiral Daala, Wedge Antilles and the alien scientist Qwi Xux sought refuge on Tafanda Bay, hoping that Momaw Nadon would shield Qwi and her knowledge from the Empire's forces. However, the Ithorians' loyalty was insufficient to prevent Kyp Durron, influenced by the dark side, from wiping Qwi's memory.
In 25 ABY, Relal Towron succeeded Momaw Nadon as high priest of Tafanda Bay. During the Battle of Ithor, the Yuuzhan Vong invaded Tafanda Bay. After Corran Horn discovered on Garqi that Bafforr trees reacted violently with Yuuzhan Vong armor, the Legacy of Torment arrived in orbit above Ithor. While Admiral Gilad Pellaeon, Rogue Squadron, and a force of Chiss led by Jagged Fel engaged Coralskippers in space, the Yorik-trema landed their troops inside Tafanda Bay. Luke Skywalker and his Jedi allies fought the Yuuzhan Vong and Chazrach aboard the herd ship. Following the invasion, Relal Towron was evacuated to the Core Worlds. Ithor was destroyed in the battle, presumably taking Tafanda Bay with it.
