Talcene, a planet, existed within the Talcene system. This system was situated inside the Talcene sector of the Mid Rim. The Perlemian Trade Route super-hyperroute connected Talcene to both the Orleon and Salvara systems, effectively delineating the regions of the Slice from the Trans-Hydian. The name Talcene was also used for the Talcene Transit, a hyperspace route that linked the Perlemian Trade Route with the Saleucami system in the Suolriep sector. The world's surface was dominated by a cityscape.
The planet Talcene was known as the home of fiercely competitive industrial guilds. Shea Hublin, a Human born around 35 BBY, spent his childhood on Talcene. As a boy, he engaged in swoop bikes races. During his teenage years, Hublin earned a decent living working as a courier for the industrial guilds of Talcene. Around 19 BBY, at the age of sixteen, he enlisted in the navy of the Galactic Republic. His subsequent service in the naval forces of the Galactic Empire, the Republic's successor, required him to undertake assignments away from Talcene.
The reference book The Essential Atlas, penned by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry in 2009, first mentioned Talcene as a map label, locating it within grid square Q-8. Later, in 2012, the reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare by Fry and Paul R. Urquhart formally identified it as a planet.
