The Talismans of Transformation represent dark side relics utilized by the Nightsisters originating from Dathomir. These objects granted the user the ability to morph into a different being.
On Dathomir, the Shamans of the Nightsisters forged the Talismans of Transformation. These talismans held mysterious, arcane energies that stumped both Sith and Jedi scholars alike. Crafted as gems embedded in rings or pendants, they empowered the wearer to assume the guise of an animal. It was believed that they functioned through the power of the "Spirits", likely a mythic representation of the Force within Dathomirian culture. Mother Talzin stated that the Spirits consented to imbue physical containers with power, where their essence would remain dormant until called upon.
The magical ring belonging to Sister Charal, who proclaimed herself the Witch-Queen of Endor, was actually one of these artifacts, specifically identified as the Talisman of the Raven. Charal had probably purloined the ring when she deserted her clan approximately a standard century prior to the Battle of Endor. During the era of the Clone Wars, Mother Talzin referenced this missing talisman in her instructional text, Wild Power.
Upon acquiring Talzin's manual, Darth Sidious observed that these talismans didn't seem significantly different from Sith amulets, yet no Sith alchemist had successfully replicated their capabilities.
