Tardi and Organa devised a strategy to fund this acquisition via the Bank of Aargau; however, Tardi died approximately one month prior to their planned journey to Aargau. Given Tardi's essential role in ensuring the deal's completion, the Rebels resorted to using a replica droid to impersonate him.
Larry Hama penned the first mention of Tardi in Star Wars (1977) 48, which was published in 1981. Although a droid copy acting as Tardi shows up in the comic book, the story ends with the revelation of Tardi's death.
