Imperial Hazard's Capture is a brief narrative penned by Nora Mayers and brought to life with illustrations by Christopher Trevas. Its initial appearance was in Star Wars Adventure Journal 10, courtesy of West End Games, during May of 1996. Later, it found a digital home within the archives of Hyperspace on July 9 of 2007.
The former assistant barrister general of the Republic, Sayer Mon Neela, now a war strategist and a prominent figure in the rebel alliance, was situated on the planet Horob. As Imperial forces approached the primitive world, a rapid evacuation of the rebel base was initiated. To provide the ground troops with sufficient time to evacuate, Neela commanded her yacht, the Starcrossed, to intercept the approaching Victory-class Star Destroyer known as the Imperial Hazard, rather than executing a jump to the Rim.
Subsequently, Neela established communication with the Star Destroyer, identified herself, and requested an audience with the captain. To guarantee her personal safety, she issued a threat to detonate her yacht, which would also destroy the Imperial Hazard should any aggressive actions be detected.
Sergus Lanox, the captain of the Star Destroyer, agreed to Neela's request to board his vessel, with the intention of capturing the wanted rebel leader.
During their private conversation, both individuals caught glimpses of the other's true nature, fostering a sense of mutual respect that each attempted to conceal.
As Lanox made an attempt to apprehend Neela, she threatened the destruction of the Imperial Hazard via the Starcrossed, and then proposed that Lanox surrender his ship to the Alliance as an alternative.
With the negotiation reaching an impasse, Lanox ordered that Neela be escorted back to her own vessel.
Without Lanox's knowledge, Neela had discreetly brought onboard a prototype espionage device, a creation of rebel scientists on Horob. This device successfully deciphered the encryption protecting all systems on the Imperial Hazard, and began to trigger cascading critical system failures as it pushed the Star Destroyer's computer systems beyond their limits.
Before long, the Imperial Hazard began a descent, pulling the Starcrossed along with it due to their connection via an umbilical link.
Upon discovering Neela's deception, Lanox personally led a squad of stormtroopers in a charge down the corridor.
The Imperial captain and the rebel leader faced each other in a fierce exchange of blaster fire, the Imperial Hazard suffered a catastrophic implosion. The resulting shockwave rocked the corridor, causing Lanox to fall into Neela's embrace. Both tumbled to the floor, stunned and bewildered. In that critical moment, Lanox relinquished his last opportunity to capture her. He assisted Neela in her escape by forcing open the jammed hatch on her ship, shared a lingering kiss with her, and then struggled back to his own vessel through the rapidly depressurizing corridor.
After returning to safety at a rebel base located on Carosi XII, Neela privately expressed her admiration for Lanox to Bothan general Se'lab prior to attending the celebration held in her honor. Later, through holonet news broadcasts, Neela observed Grand Admiral Takel presenting Sergus Lanox with the Distinguished Medal of Imperial Honor, in recognition of his extraordinary heroism in the face of rebel terrorism.
