The Cauldron

The Cauldron, situated on the harsh planet of Rattatak, was a sizable arena where gladiatorial contests took place. While the rocky terrain of Rattatak featured numerous such arenas, the Cauldron stood out as the most expansive and notorious, drawing in the most skilled fighters.

History

The result of a fight in the Cauldron.

Amidst the constant warfare plaguing the planet Rattatak, a resourceful Rattataki conceived a profitable venture involving the establishment of these gladiatorial arenas. He arranged for mercenaries and slave soldiers to battle each other in gladiatorial combat, with the credits earned from the bets being used to acquire more soldiers and weaponry from off-world sources to fuel the ongoing conflict. The brutal spectacle of Rattatak rapidly gained popularity.

The Cauldron was carved out of a jagged rock spire, forming a vast cavern surrounded by numerous viewing boxes. Warlords and military leaders frequented the events, searching for soldiers capable of securing victories in their wars. Slavers supplied opponents for the gladiators, often in the form of perilous creatures from other planets or monsters trained to kill.

However, the most formidable gladiator to ever compete in the Cauldron was not one of these. Following the commencement of the Clone Wars, Asajj Ventress entered the Cauldron and eliminated Dooku's henchman, hoping to impress Count [Dooku](/article/dooku-legends], who was observing, and be chosen as his Sith apprentice. Armed with a pair of lightsabers, Ventress swiftly dispatched the various gladiators the Cauldron pitted against her, ranging from bloodthirsty Gamorreans to menacing wampa ice beasts. After emerging victorious, Ventress challenged Dooku to a duel on the arena floor. Although Dooku defeated her, he was impressed enough to recruit her to his cause.
