The Phantom Menace (painting)

A painting titled The Phantom Menace, depicting individuals involved in the Invasion of Naboo during 32 BBY, became available after the Battle of Yavin. The artwork utilized red and earthy hues, complemented by shadows rendered in purple.

Darth Maul's visage, representing the Dark Lord of the Sith, was present in the background. Two yellow light sources, positioned near the center, illuminated the scene. Above Anakin Skywalker, a child whose figure was located in the lower center of the painting, were the prominent portraits of Qui-Gon Jinn, a Jedi Master, and Padmé Amidala, the Queen of Naboo wearing her throne room gown. To the right of the boy, a flying J-type 327 Nubian royal starship was shown alongside C-3PO, a protocol droid, and R2-D2, an astromech droid. On Skywalker's left were Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Padawan ready for combat with his ignited lightsaber, and Jar Jar Binks, a smiling Gungan.

Behind the scenes

The Phantom Menace was a painting collectible within the 2003 massively multiplayer online roleplaying game Star Wars Galaxies, which was developed by Sony Online Entertainment. Players could obtain this painting using a "Buddy Token"—an in-game reward given to players who successfully invited new subscribers to Star Wars Galaxies—and then use it as a decorative item in their player housing. The in-game representation of the painting was a cropped version of the theatrical poster art for the 1999 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, created by Drew Struzan using acrylics and pencils. The game's servers were ultimately shut down on December 15, 2011.
