The Theed plasma refinery, an installation for plasma refinement, was situated on the planet of Naboo, specifically in proximity to the city of Theed. It had been out of operation since approximately 21 BBY.
Sometime around 21 BBY, during the period known as the Clone Wars, Count Dooku orchestrated a scheme to abduct Supreme Chancellor Palpatine during Theed's Festival of Light, enlisting the aid of his bounty hunters. This group included Obi-Wan Kenobi (in the guise of Rako Hardeen), Cad Bane, Twazzi, Embo, Derrown, and the mastermind Moralo Eval. As the plan unfolded, Embo and Twazzi were apprehended, and Derrown was incapacitated. Bane and Eval, utilizing a holographic disguise matrix, successfully transformed Palpatine into a Senate Guard, then transported him via speeder to the refinery, expecting to rendezvous with Dooku. However, Dooku was absent. Instead, the disguised Kenobi appeared, engaging Bane and Eval in a brief skirmish. Kenobi prevailed, leading to the arrival of Anakin Skywalker and Jedi Master Mace Windu in their own speeders, closely followed by a unit of clone shock troopers, who took Bane and Eval into custody. Palpatine was restored to his original form and returned to Theed, where he and Skywalker faced Dooku.
