Throughout the galaxy, many species possessed an anatomical feature known as teeth. Typically, teeth were situated within the mouth, serving the purpose of breaking down food through chewing prior to its processing by the digestive system. As an example, the Gungan species had large, flattened teeth which they used to break open shellfish that were edible. It was customary for male Twi'leks to sharpen their teeth into pointed shapes.
