Training simulator

The Training simulator served as a training tool for Imperial starfighter pilots, using simulations to teach them how to fly ships while minimizing the danger of death during the training process.

These devices bore a resemblance in form to Darth Vader's meditation chamber, and they enabled pilots to operate controls configured to mimic those of various Imperial fighter vehicles.

While using the simulator, the pilot would navigate a holographic obstacle course, tasked with destroying as many targets as possible and completing a single lap within the given timeframe. Pilots who successfully completed at least five laps qualified for a training patch representing the fighter they used in the simulator.

Behind the scenes

The Training Simulator was featured as a game mode in Star Wars: TIE Fighter. Within the game, it fulfilled a role similar to the pilot proving grounds seen in both Star Wars: X-Wing and Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance.
