Transpeeder

The transpeeder represents a kind of landspeeder that Baktoid Armor Workshop manufactured in the waning years of the Galactic Republic. These transpeeders were designed for utilization by military personnel and featured a seat affixed to a repulsorlift engine. Ultimately, this model was replaced by Baktoid's Single Trooper Aerial Platform.

Attributes

The transpeeder, a landspeeder type, was a creation of the vehicle manufacturer Baktoid Armor Workshop. Its production cost was low, and its design was straightforward: a chair for a lone pilot attached to a repulsorlift engine that powered the vehicle. With a length of two meters, it could attain velocities of up to 270 km/h. The transpeeder's frontal armament consisted of two linked light laser cannons; however, some versions substituted one cannon with a fragmentation grenade launcher. It could carry a maximum of five kilograms of cargo but had no capacity for passengers. A brand-new transpeeder had a price tag of 10,000 credits, whereas a pre-owned model typically fetched 7,000 credits.

Function

A Single Trooper Aerial Platform, the vehicle that superseded the transpeeder

The transpeeder, intended for military applications, was conceived to enhance the individual soldier's fighting capabilities. It also found use in civilian contexts, being sold to big-game hunters, bounty hunters, and planetary security forces.

Background

Production of the transpeeder began in the later years of the Galactic Republic, but it never became particularly popular with Republic military commanders. The Single Trooper Aerial Vehicle, another single-occupant aerial vehicle manufactured by Baktoid, eventually replaced the majority of transpeeders in military service.

Production Notes

The Arms & Equipment Guide, a 2002 Wizards of the Coast roleplaying sourcebook authored by Jeff Grubb and Owen K.C. Stephens, mentioned the transpeeder.
